Nautical Inspiration

Nautical - Life in the Sunshine

This week’s theme of The Creative Closet is Nautical. I have this image in my head of Nautical inspired clothing; stripes, polka dots, cardigans, boat shoes, blazers, white capris, and trust fund baby types wearing them. I guess you could say that Gossip Girl had a baby with Ralph Lauren for a weekend in the Hamptons.

I knew I wasn’t exactly ‘polished’ or had a ‘trust fund’ kind of wardrobe; I secretly wanted to pair a cardigan and a blazer together with a pair of boat shoes to complete the look. I didn’t have anything like that in my closet though. To top it off, it is still around 100 degrees here in St. George and there was no way that I was going to justify buying that kind of wardrobe right now, for a picture. Although, I seriously did have to stop and contemplate buying a pair of boat shoes at Dillard’s last week, they were so adorable and I really did want them.

I will admit, I didn’t put as much time and effort into this outfit as I have in past outfits for The Creative Closet. Partly because I really was sadden that the images of adorable outfits from Pinterest mixed with the items in my closet that just didn’t match up. So, when I found these adorable blue shorts at Gap, I knew I wanted to pair them with a white tank and a bright yellow cardigan. It didn’t exactly turn out to be what I had envisioned, but I like the outfit in the end. I don’t know if it exactly screams nautical, but maybe when it decides to cool down a few degrees, I will make up for it with a different outfit that I truly had imagined.

  2. I think you look amazing! The yellow and blue together are just perfect! And honestly, on reason I love giving out these kinds of prompts is because I want people to be able to interpret the prompt their own way.

Also, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who referenced Gossip Girl and the Hamptons in my post. ;)
