IN A MOMENT

Today, I had something entirely different planned for the blog today. I have had this urge thought for the last 24 hours to post about something that has affect our community greatly in Southern Utah. Now, I am sure if you live in Utah you automatically know what I am going to post about. But, please understand that these are my own feelings and this is how I have reacted to hearing the news.

Friday afternoon my new feed was completely blown up by articles about an 11 month of baby left in a hot car. Yes, you ready that right. The unthinkable thing happened right here in our own town. A baby was left in a hot car; found unresponsive and not breathing.

Instantly, like many others, I was extremely angered by this. I was so upset, the thought actually made me sick to my stomach. How on earth could someone possibly leave a child unattended in a hot car? How you could just accidently forget a child? How you could even for a second walk away, feeling okay about leaving a child in car in the midst of summer? Like I said, I was instantly sickened at the thought of this.

Then, my heart began to ache for the child and the siblings, family members, and parents that he/she may possibly have at home.

It was later on in the day, possibly even on Saturday; I read the article with all the detail of the event. In that moment, my entire mindset changed. This honestly, was a freak accident.

You see, this mother whom lost her beautiful baby girl. is named April. Although I don’t know her personally, I can tell you this. From the out pour of support from the community and those who know her, she is a wonderful and amazing mother. April is a mother who would have never done this to her child on purpose.

After reading about what happened over and over again, my entire outlook on this accident has changed. This was a mistake and an accident, nothing more than a moment in time where your mind played a trick on you. Although the outcome is horrific to us, I truly believe that our Father in Heaven had a plan for that sweet baby girl and her mother that day. One that we as a community will never come to understand, but one that will in some way touch us.

I was reading some of the comments on KSL news and I was completely astonished about the ignorance of some people. This mother is already going through enough pain and suffering, as well as her family and friends. She doesn’t need that kind of negativity brought into her life, in a time of mourning. Personally, I think it needs to stop.

The beautiful thing that can come out of all those negative comments though, is a beautiful message like this one below. Writing that makes you stop and thank the Lord for compassion within one’s heart.

"The Lord takes many away, even in infancy, that they may escape the envy of man, and the sorrows and evils of this present world; they were too pure, too lovely, to live on earth; therefore, if rightly considered, instead of mourning we have reason to rejoice as they are delivered from evil, and we shall soon have them again" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith [2007], 176).

As I have said before, I do not know this family. I wasn’t blessed at meeting this beautiful baby girl in her short period of time on this earth. But, I do believe this. Baby Skyah was far too perfect to be on this earth any longer. Our Father in Heaven reached out his hands that day for Skyah to come home. He made sure that her mother was unaware of her actions, by simply making her think she had already laid her sweet baby girl down for a nap. This was HIS plan for that sweet baby girl.

I am sincerely sorry for the loss of your sweet baby girl. I pray for your heart to be filled with love, peace, and understanding. I pray that you and your family will be able to overcome the guilt, hurt, and sadness; I am sure that lies within your heart. I pray that the Lord will bless you will the strength to overcome this tragedy and remember the beautiful times with that precious baby girl. My heart goes out to you.

Last, I wanted to say this: I was one whom was quickly to judge. I was one whom didn’t understand the unthinkable. I was like many of you. I hope that you can find it within your heart to understand and have compassion for this family, at this time. Because if could happen to this family, it could happen to anyone.

  1. It really is so so sad and I feel terrible for the family. It is not our place to judge
